Appeal for Trustees to helpsave charity from closure

Bluebell Rudge Cat Rehoming Centre (the RSPCA Sussex East and Hastings Branch) rescues and rehomes hundreds of cats every year but Cattery Manager Myra Grove says without new Trustees the future looks bleak. “The Branch will be at risk of closure if we cannot attract local animal lovers to join our committee,” she said. “Last year we helped rescue and rehome over 250 animals in the Hastings, Bexhill and Battle area. We also neutered many hundreds of local cats and Bull Terriers to prevent suffering.”

Owned and operated by the Sussex East and Hastings Branch of the RSPCA, Bluebell Ridge is a separate charity within the national body and entirely self-financing. The Branch has to raise around £150,000 to keep the centre open. This is done through fundraising, events, Pod sponsorship, donations, legacies and adoption fees for the Cats At The Centre. The branch also runs a Dog Rehoming service.

Myra says being a Trustee is a great way to meet like-minded people who share enthusiasm for animal welfare, adding: “You will have the opportunity to gain new skills and develop existing ones, whilst making a real difference to the lives of animals.

“Trustees meet once a month and jointly act in making decisions for the best interest of the branch and the RSPCA. No matter what your skills or how much time you have available, this is your chance to make a big difference.”
