Angmering Co-op still closed after yesterday's fire

ANGMERING Co-op is still closed today (Tuesday, June 9) after an electrical fire forced an evacuation yesterday afternoon.

Fire crews from East Preston were called at about 3.50pm, when smoke was spotted coming from fridges on the shop floor. The resulting fire left The Square store five per cent fire and 75 per cent smoke damaged.

A flat above the shop, believed to be occupied by a young family, was also emptied, while the shop's electricity supply was isolated, and damaged parts of fridge cut away.

Speaking this morning, a member of staff, who asked not to be named, said that it was hoped that the shop would be "up and running" by tomorrow.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue said that the blaze had been caused accidentally by a fault in a three-phase electric supply.
