Advice on how to avoid crazy cows

Ramblers and walkers are being warned to take care when coming into contact with cows.

Earlier this month the Observer's sister paper in Battle told how one walker was left nursing severe injuries after being trampled by cows.

And now East Sussex County Council has teamed up with the National Farmers' Union to offer advice on how best to stay safe when you come across a herd.

These tips include moving quietly when near cows, keeping any dogs under control and taking care not to walk between a cow and its calves.

And, if a cow does run straight for you, don't be alarmed.
