25,000 ENJOY A HOT NIGHT

THE biggest event in the town's calendar once again went off with a bang on Saturday night.

Hastings Bonfire saw an estimated 25,000 on the streets for the town's ninth autumn celebration.

A parade of bonfire societies from across Sussex carried their torches and banged their drums through the streets of the Old Town and the town centre.

The procession wended its way down Queens Road and Robertson Street before turning back towards the bonfire site on the beach opposite the Carlisle pub.

Keith Leech, president of Hastings Borough Bonfire Society, said: "The night went very well. Everyone enjoyed it as usual. The other bonfire societies love coming to Hastings."

There was a slight change in how the bonfire was constructed this year. Out went the pallets, because they leave hundreds of nails on the beach to clear up the next day, and in came a hefty amount of timber from Stamco.

This left the bonfire looking a more traditional shape and it certainly went up well enough.

The fireworks display by Renegade followed and was as good, if not better than ever.

And finally the effigy of glamour model Jordan was razed to the ground.
