The team behind The Graylands Cat Clinic recognises that cats benefit from a special environment when they need medical treatment, and have created the clinic with that ethos in mind.

The Graylands Cat Clinic - on Graylands Estate, Langhurst Wood Road – is the only independent vet practice in Horsham; and the only one for miles around which only puts cats’ needs first and foremost.

The feline-only clinic opened in October and has been purpose-built with a fully equipped lab, two consultation rooms, a dental suite, a surgical room and hospital ward.

Goal is to promote feline welfare

Joanna Szymanska is one of the clinical directors, together with Hazel Green.

Joanna says: “Cats have very specific needs as a species.

“By creating a cat-only environment we ensure a patient’s stress levels are as low as possible. Our independent practice was specifically designed for cats and their individual needs.

“We prioritise a comprehensive approach that considers our patients’ emotional and behavioural well-being.

“Our goal dream is to build a cat community and promote feline welfare.”

Understanding cat behaviour is key to approach

Joanna explains that the clinic wants to create a friendly and sustainable working environment, where all of the six team members are trained in feline-specific areas of veterinary medicine, and all the equipment is cat-specific.

Says Joanna: “A lot of clients struggle, and hate taking their cat to the dreaded vet visits because it’s always a really traumatic experience for their cats. We make it really nice for them. We educate clients on how to prepare and we create a stress-free environment. And that’s, that's like a game changer.

“We have a comprehensive approach, putting the needs of cats first, which is really important.

“Cats are so, so different to dogs. The senses are different, they notice different things like smell, their hearing is really sensitive too.

“For example, usually cats and dogs are treated on the same premises, and dog barking can really stress cats. At Graylands, there’s no dog noise and no dog smells. Cat welfare and understanding cat behaviour is key to our approach.”

The Graylands Cat Clinic offers veterinary treatments such as annual vaccines, health checks, neutering, dentals, weight management, senior cat care and nutritional guidance.

How to get in touch and make an appointment

Explains Joanna: “We offer what other vets would do, but we focus solely on cats. We have specialists working with us whenever we need them, we give them a call and they come in and do a specialist consultation as well.”

To support owners, the clinic – which has plenty of parking available - also offers a Graylands Health Plan to promote preventative and proactive care, as well as access to out-of-hours text or video advice via app.

Says Joanna: “We’re excited to give cats and their owners a gold standard of care.”

The Graylands Cat Clinic is open from 8am-6pm on Mondays to Fridays.
