Players stage revue of Second World War

Fairlight Players will be singing, dancing and acting their way through Ken Lee’s nostalgic, funny and moving Happy as a Sandbag at Fairlight Village Hall from next Wednesday (April 10) to Saturday (April 13), with performances each evening at 7.30pm, along with a 2.30pm Saturday matinée.

The show follows the story and main events and characters of the Second World War in sketches and songs.

Churchill, Hitler, Chamberlain, Monty and Mussolini, will make appearances, plus Lord Haw-Haw, Alvar Liddell and the Radio Doctor.

The Andrews Sisters, Max Miller, Robb Wilton, George Formby, Carmen Miranda – and striptease ‘Jane’ from the Daily Mirror will also feature.

Of course, the Army, Navy and Air Force are all there, together with air raid wardens, the Home Guard and Land Girls.

The company is 12-strong including many Fairlight regulars as well as Judy Walsh and Ken Hall, who are making their Fairlight debuts.

There will be a licensed bar on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
