New festival to showcase local filmmaking talent

The Hastings Filmmakers Festival is curated by Mark French, who said: “Hastings is lucky to have so much talent concentrated in the locality, and while the genres are diverse, the programme aims to explore and discuss links in the style and substance of the films.

“They range from black comedy to social satire, off-beat drama to mystical experimentation, music documentary to opera re-worked as film fantasy.

“All the work has been created in the past year and many of the screenings will be premieres and previews, with a great opportunity to talk to the film makers themselves.

“It’s never been a better time to celebrate emerging Hastings culture.”

Screenings include Alcina, tonight (April 26) at Christ Church Parish Centre, London Road, St Leonards, 8pm, directed by Sam Sharples and Nichola Bruce.

Tomorrow (Saturday, April 27) at the Electic Palace Cinema, in High Street, will be Jump, directed by Bindu de Stoppani, at 2.30pm, Swandown by Andrew Kötting at 5pm, and Frank, directed by Richard Heslop, at 8pm.

On Sunday (April 28) at the Electric Palace will be Interference directed by Nick Pilton, at noon, and Hear Now, by Mark French, at 8pm.

At the Jerwood Gallery on Sunday will be a screening of some of the best short films and moving image work to have been made in the Hastings area in the past year.
