Blockbusters back in Bexhill

FILMLOVERS are in for a treat at Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavillion where a new season of movies is being launched.

Cinema Nights offers the chance for visitors to catch up with a wide range of treasured classic films or acclaimed new releases that might have been missed first time around.

Argo, which just won an Oscar for Best Picture, is one of them plus Untouchable, The Artist and Skyfall.

Also screening at the De La Warr Pavillion will be NTLive, which means a chance to see National Theatre productions broadcast live to the screen, and Artist’s Choice, with films selected by Shaun Gladwell whose work is on view at the moment, which will include an introductory talk and glass of wine.

The De La Warr Pavilion’s David Rhodes commented: “From previous film seasons here we have learned that there is a community of local people who wish to see great quality recent films in a comfortable environment on a regular basis.

“We have also learned that local people would like to see the building as a hub for evening activities.

“With this in mind we applied to the Film Culture Fund for a grant to run a programme of excellent quality recent films alongside those films that relate to the exhibition programme, which are introduced by guest speakers and include a glass of wine in the price of a ticket.

“We will also be offering special offers for purchase of multiple tickets.”

He added: “For me the Pavilion is a perfect environment for the cinema experience as its architecture harks back to a golden age of cinematography – you can just imagine Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing down our main staircase.

“We want to entertain our local visitors and establish the Pavilion as a welcoming place where you may come to see quality films on a regular basis.

“We have brought in a new projector for the season so that the visual, as well as sound quality of the screenings are second to none.”
