A student at a secondary school in Hastings has tested positive for Covid-19.

The student attends Hastings Academy, in Rye Road, Hastings.

A spokesperson for the University of Brighton Academies Trust, which runs the school, said: “We can confirm that a student from The Hastings Academy has tested positive for COVID-19. The Academy have taken steps to act quickly to reduce the risk to other and are working closely with Public Health England to monitor the situation.”

Hastings Academy wrote to parents on Tuesday night (September 22) to inform them of the positive case.

Headteacher Hilary Morawska wrote: “The academy has today confirmed a positive Covid case, within its community and, following PHE guidance, have communicated with students and staff in relation to this case.

“Unless you have received specific communication from the academy, full attendance is expected.

“We continue to follow all relevant guidelines following social distancing and protective measures and wish to reassure you we are placing the welfare of our community at the forefront of all we do.”
