Trading Standards Information and Advice: Young Consumer of the Year 2012

Students from the St Leonards Academy have won the East Sussex final of the Young Consumers of the Year competition.

Organised locally by East Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards team, the competition tests the students on their knowledge of a range of topics from consumer rights and responsibilities to safety and the environment.

The St Leonards Academy students – Polly Riggs, Aaisha Braithwaite, India Malindine and Kerri Morris – battled it out against other teams from Ringmer Academy, Peacehaven Community School and the Hastings Academy to take the title at the recent Eastbourne Town Hall event. They were presented with the winning trophy by Cllr Chris Dowling, Chairman of the County Council.

St Leonards Academy will now represent East Sussex at the regional final in Eastbourne on 17 April against a team from Kent.

If successful at the regional stage, they will go on to represent the South East in the national final to be held in Manchester in June 2012 at the Trading Standards Conference. If they win the national final they will walk away with £1,000 for their school.
