Pharmacy opening is the tonic for Littlehampton’s arcade

Kamsons Pharmacy has moved into the former Gamley’s toyshop, which had been left abandoned for more than four years.

The pharmacy, which opened on Monday, relocated from the former family-owned Lindsay Pharmacy, in The Arcade, which it took over last last year after the business went into administration.

And with Leaders estate agency setting up shop earlier this year in premises opposite the pharmacy, which had been empty for almost two years, the openings have revitalised the eastern end of the shopping precinct.

Kamsons’ decision to take over Lindsay Pharmacy last year was described by Arun District Council’s leader Gillian Brown as a “significant investment” in the town, as it helped to not only create new employment opportunities, but save around 15 jobs, too.

Liz Newman, business development manager at Kamsons’ Littlehampton store, said she was excited about the move into the town.

“It’s lovely to have this store here, we couldn’t be happier. I don’t know how to put it into words.

“We’re very excited about the prospect of working in the town and already, we have had a fairly positive response from the residents of Littlehampton,” she said.

However, Mrs Newman added that more jobs could be available at the store in the not-too-distant future, if business at the store picked up.

“We’re currently open Monday to Saturday but we’re hoping to extend our opening hours in the coming months into Sunday, as well.

“We would certainly consider hiring extra staff to cover the store, during this time.”

Kamsons has about 44 stores nationwide.
