The store, which focuses on clearance products, sells short dated and gone-past best before end items and is open to everyone.

Rainbows manager Carrie-Ann explained the idea behind the store: “With the current globe pandemic causing workers to be furloughed and families needing to possibly tighten their belts, we thought this type of store would be perfect for the town and area.

"While helping the local community we can also help stop so much food waste.”

The store was officially opened by Mayor Nigel Sinden, who said: “Having grown up in this area and seeing shops come and go, it's fantastic to see a shop like this. The community needs a store like this and I am proud to have been invited to officially open it."

Rainbows has a selection of it items ranging from crisps to tinned goods, with new stock arriving daily.

Local Sean Olympian Baldock, who also attended the opening, added: "Great privilege to support a new business to Silverhill. Rainbows Wholesales will also be supporting St. Michael's Hospice which is amazing in itself, also helping the local area providing cut price food items which will be useful for anyone on a budget and community organisations that need to
