The MP hailed her sixth annual jobs fair in Hastings saying she was 'impressed' by the range of opportunities in the area.

Thirty-six exhibitors attended Amber Rudd's Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair at Sussex Coast College Hastings on Friday (September 23).

Twenty-six were offering full or part time posts, or both, 15 were offering apprenticeships as well as jobs and one was offering volunteer posts.

“Every time I hold this event I am impressed by the range of opportunities available in our local area," Ms Rudd said.

"Already, I have heard of people being offered jobs and interviews as a direct result of last Friday.

“The number of people claiming the key out of work benefits in the constituency has fallen by 58 per cent since 2010 but I know there is still more to do.

"I will continue to champion these events and other initiatives which support people into employment in Hastings and Rye.”

Last week’s fair had a new focus on training with Santander, M&S, Greggs, and EE joining together to run a 'careers hub' which provided advice and practical tips for job seekers.

In addition, St Michael’s Hospice arranged a fashion show to highlight that you don’t need to spend a fortune to dress well for a job interview, and Boots teamed-up with Sussex Coast College’s Hair and Beauty department to offer advice and tips on hair and make-up for job interviews.

At the event, Ms Rudd met with students from The St Leonards Academy and The Hastings Academy, and talked to them about employment and career choices.

“I would like to thank Sussex Coast College for continuing to be fantastic hosts for the Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair, and Saga, Amicus Horizon and Hastings Direct for sponsoring the event," she said.

"I’m already looking forward to next year’s fair to again help put local people looking for new opportunities in touch with businesses and organisations with vacancies to fill.”
