Hastings town centre after second lockdown ends and shops reopen: in pictures

Hastings town centre has come back to life as non-essential shops reopened their doors following the end of the second national lockdown.

Shops were able to reopen on Wednesday morning (December 2) as the national measures were replaced by tiered restrictions, which see the whole of East Sussex in tier two. The new restrictions mean there is still a ban on household mixing (outside support bubbles), the rule of six applies outdoors, pubs and restaurants closing at 11pm, businesses can only serve alcohol with substantial meals, while many other businesses and venues can operate in a Covid-secure manner. Wednesday saw Debenhams reopen to the public, despite the company going into liquidation earlier in the week which could see all stores closed. There were queues outside the shop as customers returned to the town while the countdown to Christmas continues.
