Bexhill convenience store to close as shop is sold to Jempson’s
A convenience store in Bexhill town centre will close next month as the shop has been sold to a new operator.
The Co-op store, in Western Road, Bexhill, will cease trading on April 13, 2021.
The shop will be taken over by Jempson’s. A spokesman for the independent family-owned business confirmed the news on Friday afternoon (March 5).
Co-op said members of staff – who have been informed of the sale – have either found alternative positions at the Co-op or will transfer to the new operator under the Transfer of Undertakings (TUPE) regulations.
A spokesman for the Co-op said: “Co-op regularly reviews its properties and after careful consideration our Western Road store has been sold. The decision to sell any store is never taken lightly. Colleagues have been informed, and our priority has been to provide our full support, ensuring they have all either found alternative positions at the Co-op or transfer (under TUPE* regulations) to the new operator. We would like to thank the community for its support over the years.”
Co-op also has a store in Devonshire Road, Bexhill.
