Young Arun artists focus on sporting themes

Littlehampton Museum invited children from eight of the area’s primary schools to submit their imaginative sporting spectacles for this year’s school’s art display.

And what a response it has been! Pupils and teachers from across Littlehampton, Arundel, Climping and Rustington have united to capture all the excitement of the games in a series of colourful displays.

Everything from captivating collages and vibrant paintings to dynamic portraits and stunning models have been created for the exhibition, which is on show in the Hearne Room gallery.

One of the most impressive designs is by the children of St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, in Highdown Drive, Littlehampton.

Every pupil played a part in creating a breathtaking, two-metre-long collage of the Olympic Stadium, complete with athletes, crowds, a running track and even a javelin or two.

Arundel CE Primary School pupils helped to focus their efforts on replicating the intricate movements of top athletes, through photography and drawing.

Rustington’s Summerlea Primary School and the village’s Community Primary School, created murals, as did pupils at Littlehampton’s River Beach Primary School and Arundel’s St Philip’s Catholic Primary School.

Children from Lyminister Primary School contributed models and paintings while pupils from St Mary’s CE Primary School, in Climping, built an array of athlete models as part of the exhibition’s hanging ceiling display.

The exhibition continues until July 20.
