Pack of Lies, by Hugh Whitemore, is based on the Portland Spy Ring, when in 1961 husband and wife Helen and Peter Kroger were sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for spying for the Russians.

The events unfold as, in a quiet London suburb, a man from MI5 asks to use a neighbour’s home opposite the Krogers’ house for surveillance – and the unsuspecting Jackson family are thrown into turmoil.

Pack of Lies follows the nightmare months leading up to the arrests, when the shattering truth about the Jacksons’ closest friends is revealed to their neighbours. The strain of the deception brings Barbara Jackson to breaking point, with the agonising realisation that the Krogers have betrayed her and she, in turn, is betraying them.

Directed by Carol Hunt, Pack of Lies features Bill Allender and Phil Blurton among the talented cast bringing this extraordinary tale to life.

The show runs from Friday 13 to Saturday 21 May at 7.30pm. There is a matinee on Sunday 15 May at 3pm and no performance Monday.

Tickets are priced at £13 for adults, £10 for groups and under-18s and £8 for Stables members. Book at www.stablestheatre.co.uk or call the box office on 01424 423221.
