The spectacular concert was headlined by West End and Broadway Legend, Ruthie Henshall who was joined on stage by stars from London’s West End including star of Avenue Q, Julie Atherton, runner-up of BBC’s Any Dream Will Do, Keith Jack, Casualty’s Emily Carey and many more. They were supported by a huge community choir and professional band who sang and played impeccably.

Response to the production has delighted producer Adam who said, “The Magic of the Musicals is all about bringing together the local community and the very best professional musical theatre talent to create a very special evening. For the members of the choir, many of whom had never sung in front of such a large audience, this was a unique and invaluable experience, being able to sing with Ruthie and the other incredible performers.”

“It was an absolute honour to have Ruthie appearing in The Magic of the Musicals. Over the course of her career, she has appeared in some of the highest grossing musicals ever written including Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, Cats and currently Billy Elliot. Her professionalism and experience shone through in her captivating performances and what an experience for the choir to work with her”

Julie Atherton, described by theatre critic Mark Shenton as ‘the reigning Queen of new musical theatre’ is clearly deserving of such a moniker! Her rendition of ‘Portrait of a Princess’, a song written especially for her, was a masterclass in the delivery of a comic song. Young professional Emily Carey blew everyone away with her dynamic performance of ‘Naughty’ and Julia Sutton raised he roof with ‘Broadway Baby’.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the choir for their hard work over the last six Sundays, the fantastic team at the De La Warr Pavilion for their support, the professional soloists for giving so freely of their time on their day off and of course to Tony Mansi who year upon year works tirelessly to ensure that events such as this are included as part of the Festival.”

“The Magic of the Musicals at Christmas will be staged at the De La Warr Pavilion on December 6 2015, starring Aled Jones and a whole host of West End performers. Expect songs from the shows, festive favourites and a magical evening of music!”
