Strictly come Wurlitzer gets all those toes tapping

Rising from the organ pit with his signature tune, Hey, Look Me Over, the clapping continued as he opened a selection of marches with Strauss’s Radetzky, followed with items from Les Miserables.

His right-hand speed trial was shown to full advantage on the screen with his rendering of Cavaquinho, and 1930’s dance-tunes of varying tempos played in Reginald Dixon style were much enjoyed.

After refreshments and fundraising raffle, Nicholas began the second half with melodies from America, such as Yankee-Doodle-Dandy, and, in quieter mood, Ketelbey’s Sanctuary Of The Heart, and Elgar’s Nimrod.

Novelty items and a Russ Conway medley were interspersed with foot-tapping tunes enjoyed by both organist and audience, and the afternoon ended with the descriptive Reginald Dixon favourite, Storm at Sea, and encore of Tiger Rag.

An excellent afternoon of good music and humour and an instrument in fine voice. By Don Valentine.
