She was the youngest ever to be admitted to the Royal Academyof Music, ultimately receiving the highest pianistic award and a bursary to study with Jacques Fevrier in Paris. This created an enduring passion in her for French music, Ravel and Debussy in particular.

On returning to the United Kingdom, she began a career of playing with all the major orchestras and conductors and returned to Europe in 1956 to take part in the International Liszt competition, to win an hors concours.

In 1994 she was given the Ferenc Liszt Medal for her life commitment to and promotion of Liszt’s music.
