New musical tackles Rye’s lifeboat tragedy
A big cast of more than 30 members and musicians are working hard putting the finishing touches to a new production by Haven Players called Mary’s Boys - written by Eastbourne headteacher Darren Vallier and his two colleagues, Michelle Pollard and Gaynor Newnham.
It is based on the true story of the Mary Stanford lifeboat and her crew, who, in 1928 tragically all perished during one of the worst storms Rye Harbour had ever seen.
Although a sad an emotional story it is portrayed over two days in the lives of the men and their families and shows the camaraderie and humour of the people of Rye Harbour village and is a tribute to them.
Featuring wonderful original songs and music it proves to be an emotional roller coaster of a tale on the 85th anniversary.
There will be a donation to the local RNLI from the proceeds of the production.
It is to be staged at Eastbourne College Theatre (Old Wish Road Eastbourne) from Thursday, October 24 to Saturday, October 26, nightly at 7.30pm with a matinee at 2.30pm on the Saturday.
Tickets are available online from www.havenplayers.com or call 01323 767816.
