It’s organised by Keith Rodway who was bass player in Mark Perry’s ATV splinter group, The Good Missionaries and Ben Browton whose alter ego, Seymour Bybuss, fronted the Shapes.

In the past they showed films profiling the likes of The Clash and Johnny Thunders, and promoted gigs by TV Smith and Vic Godard at the Brass Monkey – both are back for Punky Monkey 2015 on Saturday October 3.

This year the programme spreads over three months to continue promoting alternative grass-roots arts. A Big Lottery-funded exhibition with sound art installation, Drawing Life, will feature art works life-drawing classes with people living with dementia, curated by visual artist, author and producer Judy Parkinson. HOWL, a spoken-word project for young people, will focus on rap, poetry and music that will allow marginalised young people to have their say – literally – about what living in Hastings is like for them. Punk photographer Mark Richards will curate an exhibition including images of the Buzzcocks, Viv Albertine and Katharine Wallinger. Mark’s show opens at the Crown at 7.30, Friday September 25, with a set by Wonk Unit. The series of documentaries continues with Big Gold Dream by Grant McPhee, plus a shorter film by Kevin Wright, This is Punk Brighton. Tickets available at www.trashcannesfestival.co.uk/news
