It will be on Bulverhythe beach and at the BakiiBak Gallery on Sunday, August 23 (beach event) and Tuesday, August 25 (gallery) – and comes from Abigail Burt and Julia White.

Abigail said: “This art event is situated on the beach as an act of public interaction, to encourage a moment of reflection and recognition for the collective and individual milestones reached over this time.

“The artists will be inviting passers-by to contribute to a collective memorial to the times. Passers-by will receive a hand cast pewter token as a memento, made by the artists. These tokens are cast in cuttlefish bones washed up by the tide in St Leonards.

“There will be an exhibition presenting the project at BakiiBak Gallery on Tuesday 25th from 2-8pm, with documentation and research material from the project.”

Abigail Burt and Julia White first met whilst studying in Falmouth ten years ago.

Abigail Burt has a practice focused on public engagement, often taking a sculpture as a point of collective action, she says. Her projects usually address the “relationship between humans and the environment, stemming from her personal concerns for the need to reimagine and inform an alternative future.”
