Amateur performer to appear at world famous opera house

A Coldwaltham resident is ‘privileged’ to be appearing on the main stage at the world famous Glyndebourne opera house next month.

Amateur performer Laura Whitbread signed up to perform in the new opera, Imago, and was hooked after just one workshop.

The 22-year-old said: “I went to a group audition where I had to sing a section from the show and then put it together with dance movements.”

Imago is about a physiotherapist who works with the elderly in a nursing home and creates a game that allows them to relive their lives as a younger version of themselves.

“I play an Imago, acting out the wishes of an elder person.”

Currently undergoing intense rehearsals, Laura admits she will be sad when it comes to an end.

“Susannah is an incredible director and the cast are my extended opera family. We all seem to feed off each other’s energy.”

Excited to be performing at the Glyndebourne Opera House in Lewes, March 7, Laura added: “I feel so privileged and humble to be here.”
