A 12-hour celebration of music

The United Colours of Rhythm, a three-part musical event showcasing more than 50 live performances and DJ sets will take place at three Hastings venues today and tomorrow (October 4 and 5).

Tonight (Friday) BRAZILICA! at The Pig in Paradise, will feature Afro Cuban, Latin, and Salsa music, with live performances from Dende Nation and The Rhythm Section, as well as DJs, body artists and face painters, from 9pm to 2am (free).

The main event will run for 12 hours, from noon to midnight on Saturday, October 5 at St Mary in the Castle, Pelham Crescent, with non-stop performances and a live body art exhibition by Victoria Gugenheim.

An impressive line-up includes electro-swing from Kitten and the Hip, roots blues from King Size Slim, world fusion from The Lockup Quartet, and driving rhythms and emotive harmonies from Vocal Explosion, among others in the main auditorium. In addition, a host of acoustic performances will take place throughout the day in the St Mary in the Castle crypt.

Admission is £6, with under 16s and students free. Students should visit www.thebodycircus.co.uk for a free ticket.

The third part will take place on the Saturday evening (October 5) at Roman’s Bar and Grill, in Robertson Street, and will be a Moulin Rouge-themed body art and DJ Extravaganza, from 9pm to 3am (free).
