SCORES of bands and hundreds of musicians are gearing up for tomorrow’s Beatles Day extravaganza.

Fans of the Fab Four can expect a top line-up of acts, from some of the best tribute bands like The Electric Beatles and Prefab Four, to local favourites like The 1066 Rockitmen and Pass the Cat.

Classic Beatles hits will be played in a range of genres, from jazz, blues and funk to heavy metal and soul at the annual fundraising gig at the White Rock Theatre.

The whole of Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album will also be played live. The event starts at noon on Sunday, April 1, and ends at around 10.30pm.

Across the 10-and-a-half hours of non-stop music, there will be 69 different acts and 380 musicians taking part.

Main organiser Pete Prescott said: “Beatles Day is like a Hastings musicians’ outing, as everyone watches each other’s acts, so it’s like a party atmosphere. We make money for Macmillan Cancer Support and most of us have lost people to cancer.

“This is one of the biggest events of the year in Hastings and we usually get at least 2,000 people coming throughout the day. This year we have more than 20 acts that have never taken part before.”

Almost £17,000 was raised at last year’s Beatles Day event for Macmillan Cancer Support. Since the popular fundraiser began in 2000 Beatles Day has raised more than £100,000 in total for the charity.

Tickets are £10 per person and £5 for children aged five to 14. A family ticket for two adults and three children costs £25.

There are also Beatles Day 13 t-shirts available to buy in the theatre’s foyer. They cost £10 for adults and £8 for children.

Organisers of Beatles Day are also holding a charity auction on April 28 at the White Rock Hotel in which two tickets to participate in the audience of a Graham Norton chat show are among the items on offer.

The auction, which starts at 10.30am, will be carried out by Battle-based auctioneers Burstow and Hewett and all funds raised will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
