Music treasure Mike Hatchard will perform with Britain’s foremost Big Band leader Chris Dean next Thursday, April 14, at 8pm in Frewen College, Northiam.
Mike is well known to local audiences, but Chris began as a boy soldier in the Household Cavalry and went on to be a professional musician. In February 1978 he joined the Syd Lawrence Orchestra and stayed as lead trombone until 1983, leaving to record with the likes of
Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones, and Shirley Bassey, and for film soundtracks such as Superman, Out of Africa, and The Living Daylights.
In 1996, Chris took on leadership of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra which continues to go from strength to strength, and he is still in demand as a session musician for albums, TV and film. He is also touring a Tribute to the Great Ted Heath, and working on a new show paying homage to Matt Monro.
