Each year the award-winning blackShed gallery in Robertsbridge takes time out to discover an exciting new artist emerging from university.

This summer the gallery is promoting Susan Fynes with her debut solo exhibition which opens on Saturday August 20.

Susan is from Westfield and studied for her MA in Brighton. She was a runner up for the ING Discerning Eye Drawing Bursary Prize 2014 at the Mall Galleries, London, and has exhibited in New York as well as continually showing her work across the UK.

The blackShed’s owner and curator Kenton Lowe said: “This is quickly proving to be a great year for Susan — she has worked extremely hard and her paintings are already attracting a lot of attention; we were actually selling her work during her graduation show. We are seeing her work being prudently bought by collectors, a major piece was purchased by a TV producer. I’ve been following Susan’s progress for a while and believe she is now on the cuff of a very promising professional career.”

It takes months for artist Susan to complete intricate, hand drawn and painted, geometric abstracts, often on an impressive scale. Susan’s work incorporates colour, shape, and movement forming beautifully complex, structural paintings. This exhibition considers various aspects of her work, from eye bending patterns that look into movement, through to newer pieces that explore language and conversation.

Kenton added: “It’s an interesting and exciting show; it has clarity, it is precise and fresh, and Susan’s paintings are literally making the walls of the gallery hum.” For further information, visit www.theblackshedgallery.org.uk or call 01580 881247.
