It has been more than six months since the government introduced the smoking ban making public buildings smoke free.
When it first came into force on July 1 last year, it was thought the ban would have a serious impact on pubs and bars in Hastings and St Leonards and across the UK.

Pub owners in Hastings Old Town spoke to us to tell the Observer how life for them has changed since the ban.

Hazel Sturmer, licencee of the Anchor Inn, said she would reverse the law "straightaway".

She said: "The trade has dropped because of the ban. People do not bother coming out because there is not the social side of having a drink and cigarette.

"It looks bad people standing outside smoking. It looks rough and puts people off coming in."
