A roller skating troop is looking for new members.
1066 Rollerdance was about to fold after 30 years in business -but was saved at the 11th hour by keen skater Stacey White.

Stacey, 28, has been running the weekly classes at Summerfields leisure centre for the last 12 months, but is keen to sign up as many new skaters as she can.

"A lot of us had been members for years, and nobody wanted to see it close," Stacey said.

"I didn't want to stop skating, so I stepped in for totally selfish reasons really, because the nearest place to skate is Maidstone."

When full-time mother Stacey took over the group, there were just 16 members, and no there are more than 50.

"But we're still looking for more," she said.

So why should people get involved? Stacey said: "It's really good exercise, and it's just something different.

"I like putting on the shows, it's fantastic."

Michelle Stace runs the group with Stacey. Michelle said: "Children can come along and enjoy it, keep fit and learn a few different moves.

"It's for any age, not just children. We do our own competitions because outside competitions are much more competitive and we're just about fun."

Michelle's daughter, 10 year-old Megan Stace has been coming to 1066 Rollerdance since she was 16 months old.

She said: It's really good fun and it's good exercise at the same time."

And Michaela Lingham, 12, said: "I started coming when I was 18 months old and then I stopped and I've just come back recently.

"It's just really good fun."

Anyone interested in joining 1066 Rollerdance is asked to call Lin on 01424 424168 or take their skates to Summerfields on Saturdays from 4.30pm.
