Private Eye and Spectator cartoonist Martin Honeysett has won an international award for his work.
Martin, 65, who lives near White Rock, was handed the Grand Prize at the Kyoto International Cartoon Congress competition last week.
He had to draw a cartoon on an environmental issue related to the Kyoto protocol, and his single-strip drawing beat off 600 other competitors to win the cash prize and certificate.
Martin, who has spent two years as a visiting professor at the university in Kyoto in the past, was told while he was in Hastings that he had won, and flown out on an all-expenses paid trip for the congress.
He said: "When I found out I was delighted. I wasn't expecting to win, but I hoped I might get a smaller prize."
