Striking tanker drivers have led to a fuel shortage in Hastings as motorists scramble for fuel.
Queues snaked away from garage forecourts across Hastings and St Leonards this weekend as drivers began panic buying amid fears the pumps could run dry.
Fuel supplies at some garages have been put under strain as workers from two of the companies who deliver to Shell's 892 filling stations voted for industrial action.
Demand for petrol is said to have shot up by 30 per cent over the weekend and by today (Monday) the Shell garage in Bohemia Road had run almost completely dry.
Others have reported higher than usual demand.
Petrol bosses say they have contingency plans in operation and are hopeful fuel will not completely run out and are urging drivers not to panic by.
The four-day walk out is due to end at 6am tomorrow but a second strike has not been ruled out if the union's demands are not met.
