SIX people were evacuated from a block of flats after it caught fire at the weekend.
A couple were treated by paramedics at the scene of the blaze, which started in a ground floor flat in Priory Road at 1am on Sunday morning.

Four fire crews were called out, and it took over an hour to put out.

Neighbour John Goddard witnessed the fire from his balcony.

Former fireman Mr Goddard, 41, said: "I smelled smoke about 1.30am. The back of the block was worse than the front - smoke was billowing out.

"Flames were coming out, and licking over the top. I just kept out of the way."

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
