The U's were edged out 2-1 away to a Dorking Wanderers side lying second in Ryman Football League Division One South.

Of the three players United signed at the end of the week, Myles Judd went straight into the starting line-up at right-back, and Alex Akrofi and Victor Adeboyejo came on as second half substitutes.

United had the better of things early on only to fall behind to a goal out of nothing in the 24th minute, a cracking strike from their former striker Billy Medlock.

Dorking later shot wide at the end of a counter-attack, while at the other end, the home goalkeeper got down to repel a low 20-yard strike from Frannie Collin.

There was controversy right at the end of the half as Dorking had the ball in the net only for the referee to blow for half time.

United got back on level terms within five minutes of the restart as midfielder Simon Johnson scored for the second successive game following last weekend's winner in the FA Cup clash at Barton Rovers.

But Dorking grabbed what proved to be the winner in the 72nd minute, Rob Sheridan slotting under United goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley from a tight angle.

Harry Stannard had a header saved as United's 10-game run without a defeat in all competitions came to a halt. They lie 10th in the table, but have games in hand on most other clubs.

United: Pidgeley; Judd, Davies, Rowe, Butler; Cogan (Adeboyejo), Cruttwell, Johnson (Stannard), Bodkin; Harris (Akrofi), Collin.
