SIDLEY’S hopes of avoiding the drop from Sussex Cricket Division Two suffered a huge setback with defeat at home to fellow strugglers Ifield.
The Gullivers-based outfit are now 38 points adrift of the team in the final position of safety with just two rounds of fixtures to play.
Sidley posted a big total of 269-5 with Sam Steele making 110 off 119 balls and Jonathan Haffenden an undefeated 68.
Raza Ali took 3-65 but it was the bat that he really starred as the opener hit 156 not out off 131 balls. His match-winning innings featured 18 fours and five sixes as Ifield finished on 270-7 off 46.2 overs.
The wickets were shared between Peter King (3-55), Chris Deeprose (2-48) and Scott Woodroffe (2-85).
At the other end of the table, Three Bridges have been confirmed as champions.
