Rye too strong for nine-man Sidley
Rye United were 3-0 winners away to a Sidley United side which had two players sent-off on Tuesday night.
There wasn't a great deal to choose between the two sides in this Sussex County Football League Division Two derby until Rye struck twice in quick succession just before the 40-minute mark.
Sam Cole scored the first with a long range shot which went straight through Sidley goalkeeper Harry Killick and Duncan McArthur bagged the second with a stunning free kick.
Sidley captain Sean Kelly, who left Rye back in the autumn, was shown a straight red card in the 82nd minute for an ugly lunge on his opposite number Marc Gall.
Rye sealed victory five minutes later when McArthur converted a penalty after referee Peter Lindsey controversially deemed that he was brought down by Chris Rea.
Sidley substitute Zak McEniry took his protests too far, however, and was shown two yellow cards for dissent before the game was even re-started.
Elsewhere, Westfield chalked up a very good 1-0 win away to Seaford Town in the same division thanks to a first half goal from Andy Garman.
Full reports and reaction from both matches will appear in Friday's Observers.
Little Common's trip to Wealden, also in Division Two, was called-off due to a waterlogged pitch an hour before kick-off with both teams at the ground.
