Rye continued their perfect start to the East Sussex Cricket League season on Saturday.

Martin Blincow’s side has the full house of 120 points from its first four Division Two matches after another dominant bowling display.

Craig Pierce returned the superb figures of 8-23, including a hat-trick, as Rye skittled hosts St Peters for 70 en route to a seven-wicket victory which puts them 14 points clear at the top of the table.

Also in Division Two, Battle and Robertsbridge fought out a draw at The Clappers. Ben Ridgway top-scored with 59 as Battle made 242-7 batting first and Robertsbridge held on at 184-9 in reply thanks largely to Matt Wilkinson’s 92.

Iden are third in Division One after beating Barcombe by 21 runs. Iden totalled 201 batting first with 68 from Phil Shanks before bowling their hosts out for 180, Gary Rens and Neil Pearce taking three wickets each.

In Division Four, Pett lost by 10 wickets away to Heathfield Park and Little Common Ramblers went down by eight wickets at the hands of Mayfield after being shot out for 69.

Full reports on each of these games will appear in Friday’s Observers.
