Lydia Powell scooped two titles at a Badminton England Under-19 Open Circuit event in High Wycombe last weekend.
The talented 16-year-old from Hastings won the women’s singles and mixed doubles, as well as reaching the women’s doubles semi-finals.
One of the 3/4 seeds in the singles, Powell had a bye in the first round before seeing off Ciara Lindsay (Dorset) 21-7, 21-9 in round two.
She then outgunned Brodie Miller (Oxfordshire) 21-8, 21-11 in the quarter-finals and edged past second seed Tsui-Lee Lau (Buckinghamshire) 21-18, 15-21, 21-17 in the semi-finals. The final also went to three games before Powell got the better of Jessica Hopton (Avon) 21-16, 15-21, 21-14.
Seeded one, Powell and Connor Bambrick (Hertfordshire) didn’t drop a game in their three matches en route to the mixed doubles title.
Powell and Nicola Gresty (Gloucestershire) won their women’s doubles quarter-final in straight games before losing 7-21, 16-21 to top seeds Hopton and Miller in the semis.
The previous weekend, Powell and Nicki Chan-Lam (Yorkshire) reached the semi-finals of the women’s doubles at a senior gold circuit event in Wimbledon.
