South Saxons returned to action on Saturday following the previous weekend’s washout with a creditable 2-2 draw away to Mid-Sussex.
Saxons got off to the perfect start in the South Hockey League Kent/Sussex - Regional 2 contest, taking the lead less than a minute after the push-back. Harry Reece pounced on a defensive lapse and slotted home.
However, Mid-Sussex pegged Saxons back 10 minutes before the break. The second half brought a number of yellow cards, with the home side capitalising on their numerical advantage to go ahead for the first time in the match 15 minutes from time.
Despite being reduced to nine men, Saxons rallied and netted a dramatic late equaliser. Jamie Busbridge stroked home at the back post - preventing a third defeat on the bounce for the Hastings-based club.
Saxons are in ninth place with five points from as many matches, four of which have been away from home. Having played all of the top three so far, Saxons will take on fourth-placed Brighton & Hove II in a rare home game this coming Saturday.
