Five of Hastings Seagull’s most successful young performers demonstrated that moving to university hasn’t diminished their swimming prowess or will to win.
Kevin Pickard, Nathan Thomas, Amy Masters, Courtney Mattocks and Victoria Turner performed well against very tough opposition at the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) long course meet.
The event - held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield - was open to anybody currently studying at universities in the UK and as a result, a number of Team GB’s swimmers competed.
Of the Seagulls contingent, Pickard really shone. He sped to national and world time trial qualifying times of 28.34 in the 50m backstroke and 24.57 in the 50m freestyle, as well as securing a personal best of 26.44 in the 50m butterfly.
Thomas, Masters and Mattocks all achieved personal best times too, as did Turner, who qualified for the final of the 50m backstroke with an impressive time of 31.96.
