Track star Lee Emanuel suffered disappointment at the Aviva UK Trials and Championships last weekend.
The St Leonards-based middle distance runner failed to qualify for the 1,500m final at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.
Representing Sheffield, Emanuel came eighth of the 12 starters in the last of the three heats on Saturday in a time of 3:47.34.
Only the top three in each heat and the three fastest losers overall advanced to the final the following evening.
Emanuel, a Sheffield Hallam University and University of New Mexico graduate who once turned out for Hastings Athletic Club, came fifth in the corresponding competition last year and second in 2009.
The former William Parker Sports College student, who these days trains under coach Ron Warhurst in Michigan, also represented England in the 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games in India last autumn.
