The 102nd Hastings Open Bowls Tournament is set to get under way at the White Rock Greens tomorrow (Monday) morning.
Town mayor Cllr Alan Roberts and Mark Gardiner, of main sponsor Croft Glass Ltd, will open the play at 9am, followed by the preliminary round of The Brickwall Hotel Men’s Pairs at 9.30am.
All 24 rinks will be in use, and the early rounds of the Ladies’ and Men’s Singles and Open Triples will follow in the afternoon and early evening. More than 400 competitors will take part and prize money will again total £2,000. The winners of next Saturday’s finals will receive trophies.
Tournament treasurer Mike Grigg said: “We are once again indebted to our main sponsor, Croft Glass Ltd, together with all our other sponsors, who include The Brickwall Hotel, Don Softley, DD Catering, and Gibbons, Mannington & Phipps.
“We also owe gratitude to firms and businesses that have supported us by advertising in the tournament programme. and also to those who have donated prizes for the raffle, with particular mention to the generosity of the businesses in the Silverhill area.”
Official programmes, together with competition draws, have already been sent out, as well as details of the Charity Tournament being held on Sunday September 30, entries for which close on Wednesday August 29. The sole beneficiary this year will be St Michael’s Hospice.
