Indian ace too hot for Davis
Mark Davis suffered fresh disappointment on the main world snooker tour on Wednesday evening.
The St Leonards player lost 5-3 to Indian cueman Aditya Mehta in round two of the Welsh Open Qualifiers at Pontin's Prestatyn.
Despite sitting 48 places above Mehta at 42nd on the provisional ranking list, 36-year-old Davis found himself 3-1 down at the interval with his only success coming in frame two.
Former Benson & Hedges Championship and snooker.de Open winner Davis took frame five only to lose the sixth and lie on the brink of defeat at 61-29 down in the seventh.
He rallied well to pinch it 64-61 on the black, but despite forging an early advantage in frame eight, 2008 Asian Championship runner-up Mehta recovered to seal his victory.
The result leaves Davis winless from two ranking events since the turn of the year having chalked up 13 wins in the five ranking tournaments prior to Christmas.
Davis, 58th on the official rankings, will hope to reproduce his early season form when he lines-up in the World Snooker Championship Qualifiers at the start of next month.
