In the Race for Life everyone wins

Cancer Research UK's Race for Life saw 2,625 women take part in the "hugely successful" event in Alexandra Park on Sunday.

Women came together to walk, jog or run 5km and raise money for Cancer Research UK's work -including research into bowel cancer in Hastings.

Organisers are hoping to beat this year's fundraising target of 182,000, as the money comes in.

Hastings Race for Life event manager, Carly Gibbs, said: "It's been absolutely fantastic. Everyone has had such a fantastic day, and has really done something positive for Cancer Research UK.

"Everyone has their special reason for running - people ran in memory of someone special, and there are also people who have run in celebration of their own life.

"The women of Hastings deserve a really big thank you for creating such a great atmosphere and helping make the event so special. I hope everyone who took part in Race for Life at the Alexandra Park really enjoyed themselves.

"Everyone was in a party mood on the day and it looked like everyone had a fantastic time.

"By taking part in Race for Life the women of Hastings pledged their support to help us beat cancer – a disease that will affect on-in-three people in the UK at some stage in their lives.

"The event itself may be over, but now it is vital that everyone makes one final effort by returning their sponsorship money as soon as possible to help us cross the fundraising finish line."

Volunteers from Cancer Research UK shops in Bexhill were on hand to take cash and clothing donations on the day. They raised more than 300 and collected 400 bags of donations for the shops, which could retail at up to 30 a bag.

Ellen Parritt from the Devonshire Road shop said: "We've had a fantastic response."
