No title change despite setback
South Saxons Hockey Club, 2011. 12/11/11 Dan Burnett
South Saxons captain Paddy Cornish believes nothing has changed in their quest for a league title.
That’s despite Saxons being knocked off the top of the South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One table following a 5-4 defeat at Penguin last weekend.
Cornish said: “It was obviously really disappointing at the end, but after sitting down and having a look at it, to be honest nothing’s changed.
“We’ve still got to go to Horsham (seconds) and win - which we would’ve had to do anyway - and we’ve got to go to Lewes (thirds) and get something out of the game there.”
Second-placed Saxons are a point behind Horsham II and one ahead of third-placed Penguin. Lewes III, who are five points off the pace in fourth, are also not out of it.
Cornish admits it will be interesting to see how Saxons respond to their first defeat of the season when they entertain fifth-placed Brighton & Hove III on Saturday.
Oscar Rogers will replace the unavailable Dan Burnett (pictured), while Cornish is set to resist the temptation to recall Dave Draper despite the prolific goalscorer impressing for the seconds last weekend. Push-back is 1.30pm.
