Bumper Boxing Day of football
Hastings United midfielder Jamie Crellin turned down an approach from Whitehawk earlier in the season
The usual bumper Boxing Day line-up of football is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) weather permitting.
After the weekend’s action was completely washed out by heavy rain, the players will be desperately hoping the pitches dry out in time for some exciting-looking derby matches.
Top of the bill is Hastings United’s trip to Whitehawk in the Ryman League Premier Division. A tough test is in prospect for the U’s because the Hawks are flying high in second place having lost only two of their 17 games so far.
Although United are 16 places further down the table, they are unbeaten in their last nine and have lost only one of their last 15 in all competitions. Kick-off is 12noon.
Elsewhere, Rye United and Sidley United are due to go head-to-head at The Salts in Sussex County League Division One, kick-off 11am. But the match must be in doubt given how wet the ground has been this week.
Bexhill United and Little Common are scheduled to meet at The Polegrove in Sussex Division Two, while Westfield go to Eastbourne United AFC in the same division. Both of these games kick-off at 11am.
