Bradley Goldberg said he dreamt of scoring at The Riverside Stadium.

The Hastings United striker bagged his 15th of the season with a glorious 25-yard strike into the top corner during the 4-1 defeat to Middlesbrough yesterday (Saturday).

Speaking to Observer Sport after the FA Cup third round tie, Goldberg said: “I dreamt about scoring the night before. At a ground like this playing against a Championship side...it was an unbelievable feeling.”

The goal came in the 69th minute and virtually straight from the restart after Boro had gone 3-0 up. It was Goldberg’s seventh goal during United’s remarkable FA Cup run.

“When I picked the ball up I just thought run at the defenders and it opened up so I had a go and for it to go in was a great feeling, especially in front of the fans,” he continued. “I think we put in a great shift. Everyone dug in and gave 100 per cent.”

The long-haired Goldberg, son of former Crystal Palace chairman and now Bromley manager Mark Goldberg, described how different it was playing a side like Middlesbrough from what United are used to week in, week out.

“It’s a lot different,” he went on. “In non-league you’re dealing with a lot of long balls, but they keep the ball, they find gaps and they punish your mistakes.”

Nineteen-year-old Goldberg added that what the club had done in getting to the last 64 of the world famous competition was “unbelievable” and “the fans have been excellent along the way”.
