Westfield are facing the prospect of being without David Pugh for around a month.

The striker, who has scored three goals so far this season, is on crutches with a foot injury and is expected to be sidelined for around 4-5 weeks.

Westfield won 3-1 away to Southwick in Pugh’s absence last weekend, though, and the arrival of Danny Woodley has come at a good time.

The Sussex County Football League Division Two club contested a friendly on Monday night away to an Eastbourne Borough XI containing a mixture of first team players and triallists.

Westfield lost 2-1 with Joe Barham scoring their goal from a penalty. Joint manager Tony Harris was pleased with what he described as “a good workout and a very good performance”.

Having won two, lost two and drawn four of their first eight games, sixth-placed Westfield will tomorrow (Saturday) host a Wick side which has bounced back from losing its first four with successive away wins.

“They’ve obviously picked up a little bit, but as long as we turn up and perform, I back us to beat anyone,” said Harris. “I think we’ve got some good ability in the squad and we’ve got some good strength in depth.

“There’s not much in this league. If we can get a run going, I fancy us to do alright. We just need to be consistent, believe in ourselves, have the right attitude and the desire to work hard.”
