Rye United and Sidley United experienced mixed fortunes last night (Tuesday).
Sidley won 1-0 away to Hailsham Town, but Rye lost 2-0 at Ringmer in Sussex County Football League Division One.
Matt Darby’s eighth minute strike - his second in four days - was enough for Sidley to see off a Hailsham side which is yet to avoid defeat on home soil this season.
It was scrappy stuff, but having lost their last three games and not won in five, Sidley would have been grateful for the victory however it came.
Dominic Clarke hit the post with a terrific effort late in the first half, while goalkeeper Josh Pelling produced a tidy display as Sidley kept their first league clean sheet of the season.
Rye’s five-match unbeaten start to their league programme, meanwhile, was brought to an end by a Ringmer team which has moved up to second with five wins out of six.
Seb Saunders put Ringmer ahead in the 38th minute and Tom Lyons doubled their advantage in the 46th as Rye suffered a second straight loss in all competitions without scoring.
See Friday’s Observers for full reports on both matches.
