Memorial match for popular Bexhill footballer

A football match in memory of Richard '˜Dickie' Anderson is set to take place at The Polegrove on Sunday December 11 (kick-off 1pm).

The Bexhill football community is coming together to remember one of the town’s own and a player who possessed one of the best left foots Bexhill has seen.

Those organising the game are asking all of Dickie’s footballing mates to join in this special day to play one final game in his memory.

Dickie played for many local teams in his successful career, including Bexhill Town, Bexhill United, Bexhill AAC, Little Common, Ninfield United and Sidley United.

A Facebook page has been set up, entitled Dickie’s Memorial Match, and players who would like to play are asked to send a message to the page mentioning the clubs where they played alongside Dickie.

Those who play will be asked for a £10 donation, which will include a matchday t-shirt as a memento of the day. All money raised will go towards a memorial bench at The Polegrove, along with local charities 1066 Specials and Triple 21.

As well as the game, there will be a giant raffle, half time penalty shoot-out for children, lots of food, plus a fully stocked bar.

A very popular figure in the local football community, Dickie died while on holiday in Spain in early October.
